THE CHILDREN'S JUDAICA
The 10 volume Children's Judaica is based on the recently published 22 volume Encyclopedia Judaica Second Edition, published by Gale Thomson. This edition of the Encyclopedia Judaica was the winner of the prized Dartmouth Award and has been hailed as this generation's greatest contribution to Jewish knowledge. It covers all realms of Judaism, the Jewish people, and the Jewish experience. This mammoth enterprise involved the work of no fewer than 1200 editors and contributors.
Now, through a dedicated task force of writers, the Children's Judaica offers to young readers (ages 8-12) the benefits of that magnificent work, tailored to the vocabulary, interests, and study needs of this age group.
The Children's Judaica is not only for the student who has a school assignment to complete. Rather, it is the type of volume that the curious child will pick up and read because of the interesting articles it contains. Each volume will include an eight page color insert.
The Children's Judaica will allow the young reader to explore both the past and present of Jewish life, offering a valuable view of Judaism and the Jews throughout the ages and in every place where Jews have lived or still live. It will take the reader to the mellah of North Africa and to the West Coast of the United States, to the Service of the Temple in ancient times and to the prayer service of our day, to the depression following the downfall of Shabbetai Zevi and to the elation of the proclamation of the State of Israel. To pick up each volume is to journey through the Jewish year, stopping off at all the festivals and fasts of the year and to learn of their significance and what they commemorate, to note how many famous people in all walks of life are Jews and to see what Jews have contributed to the world.
All in all, the young reader will find the Children's Judaica a fascinating voyage of discovery.
